Star Wars Race Recap 2015

The inaugural Star Wars race weekend was the weekend after the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend–back to back weekends, with a Disney cruise in between!

I docked back in Orlando from the cruise on Friday morning and went straight to the airport to fly out to Star Wars weekend at Disneyland, CA.  My fiancée John and his two sons were already out there and the boys ran their very first 5K with their Dad.  They even dressed up and I’m pretty sure they are hooked on runDisney!

I arrived Friday evening and John and I ran the 10K Saturday morning.  I wasn’t trying to break any records, going out at a nice pace that pushed me a little bit but wasn’t going to leave me broken for the half marathon the next day.  I was shocked at how good my legs felt after doing the Dopey (5K, 10K, Half, Full) the previous weekend.  I dressed as Princess Leia and saw far too many men dressed as the same!  Haha.

The half marathon weather was perfect for running–nice and cool at race start but warmed up a bit by the finish.  I decided to dress as C-3PO, as I found out many others did as well!  It was a blast to see how many people dressed up like all of their favorite Star Wars characters.

I earned the Rebel Challenge medal for doing both the 10K and the half marathon, and I also earned my Coast to Coast medal for doing a runDisney race on each coast in one calendar year.  And January wasn’t even over!

This finish time earned me a 2nd place age group and 16th overall female.

My time for the Half earned me 5th in age and 20th overall female. The race medal is designed from the medal in the actual Star Wars movie! Also got Rebel Challenge for doing 10K + Half and the Coast to Coast for a Disney races on each coast in a calendar year.

I absolutely love Disneyland.  Everything is so close–parks, downtown Disney, hotel, race start, race finish, EXPO…no need to even rent a car.  And of course my favorite–Jamba Juice in downtown Disney.  I am on the Health Living Council for Jamba Juice and I always love the fact that it’s sooo easy to get my Jamba fix when I’m on Disney property in CA.

I have to say that the runDisney races are all expertly run with top notch entertainment and the inaugural Star Wars weekend was no exception!  One of the best parts were all of the Star Wars fans lining the course in the city of Anaheim in costume!

I dressed as R2D2 for the Half Marathon and of course had to pose with some storm troopers on the course.

Looking forward to my next runDisney adventure!
