Spiced Walnuts

Walnuts contain healthy fats, specifically polyunsaturated fats. Of all the other nuts, walnuts contain the most amount of alpha-linolenic acid (ALA), which is the plant-based source of omega-3 fatty acids. Research has shown positive effects of walnuts in brain health, diabetes, heart health, and some cancers. Add walnuts to a salad, stir them into yogurt, or eat a handful plain. Roasted Nuts

Spiced Mayan Chocolate Coated Walnuts from California Walnuts

Makes 8 Servings

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Cook Time: 15 minutes

 

Ingredients:

2 Tbsp.              Butter, Melted

2 tsp                  Ground Cinnamon

¼ tsp                  Cayenne pepper

2 Cups               California walnut halves

2 Tbsp.              Granulated Sugar

1 Tbsp.              Cocoa powder

 

Directions:

Preheat oven to 250 degrees. Melt butter in a saucepan over low heat or in the microwave for 30 seconds or until melted. Add cinnamon and cayenne to the melted butter and stir. Fold in walnuts until coated with cinnamon butter mixture. Toss with granulated sugar. Roast in oven for about one hour, stirring every 15 minutes.  Sift cocoa powder over warm walnuts. Allow walnuts to cool and store in airtight container.
