Big Sur Marathon Race Report

28.04.2015
|

Last summer I made the decision to sign up for the Big Sur Full Marathon. I had always had it on my bucket list of marathons, and figured there was no better time than the present to make it a reality.

I went to the Monterey/Carmel/Big Sur area back in the early 90’s when I was a teenager on a Girl Scout Wider Opportunity trip to learn about photography and John Steinbeck. I immediately fell in love way back then with the gorgeous California coast about an hour and a half south of San Francisco. For me […]

Keeping Sane During Injury

21.04.2015
|

Instead of getting depressed and angry about my lack of movement, I tried to look on the positive side.

About a year and a half ago I fracture my pelvis.  The doctor didn’t even need to order an MRI to see that big crack on the Xray.  It didn’t happen with a fall–it just happened.  Looking back on it, I was running too much, putting too many miles on my body without proper recovery, and I was too thin.  I was less than a year out from losing my late husband to cancer, and I was […]

My Gorgeous Hikes in Arizona

7.04.2015
|

The aspect of the hiking I loved most was the exhilarating feeling of doing something out of my normal fitness routine with a reward so sweet when you get to the top.

I had the opportunity recently to travel to Phoenix for a long weekend with my fiancée.  I had no idea how gorgeous the area is and how amazing the hikes are!  I met up with my friends Kris and Mindy on Sunday morning and they took me out to the Superstition Mountains to Lost Dutchman State Park and hiked up and even beyond a point called Flat […]

3 Fun Ways to Get Moving!

17.03.2015
|

I’m on my own path of exercise and it’s important to do what I enjoy and what works best for me, not what everyone else is doing and enjoying.

I used to do the hour long P90X every morning around 6AM before class, or run intervals on the treadmill for 60 minutes, or go to boxing classes with my mom…all of which are great but also really intense. Some people thrive off of grueling workouts like that, but I am not one of them. It was hard for me to accept that about myself, which is why […]

Disney Princess Race Recap

10.03.2015

Want to run like a princess?  Or dress like a princess and go for a run?  Disney is the place to do it!

This year I did what is called the Glass Slipper Challenge:  the 10K on Saturday and the Half Marathon on Sunday of Disney Princess Half Marathon Weekend.  In the days leading up to the races I spoke on stage in a panel of experts:

Leslie Kay, fashion blogger with Disney Bound
Elizabeth Comeau, editor of Zelle, Runner’s World running site for women
Betsy Hughes, co-owner of Track Shack Events

My niece Justina contacted me […]

Star Wars Race Recap 2015

3.03.2015
|

The inaugural Star Wars race weekend was the weekend after the Walt Disney World Marathon weekend–back to back weekends, with a Disney cruise in between!

I docked back in Orlando from the cruise on Friday morning and went straight to the airport to fly out to Star Wars weekend at Disneyland, CA.  My fiancée John and his two sons were already out there and the boys ran their very first 5K with their Dad.  They even dressed up and I’m pretty sure they are hooked on runDisney!

I arrived Friday evening and John and I […]

Cruisin’ Disney Style: Castaway Challenge 2015

24.02.2015
|

When I found out that runDisney had added a cruise to their lineup of races, I was crossing my fingers and toes that I would have the opportunity to go. I was lucky enough to sail the Disney Wonder the Monday after Marathon weekend for 4 nights with my boys and my mom. The cruise went to Nassau, Bahamas and to Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island. RunDisney put on a 5K on the island and whoever did a race on marathon weekend and then went on that particular cruise immediately after the marathon was able to earn a special […]

Dopey Race Recap 2015

YEP!  I’m Dopey!

When I first heard about the “Dopey Challenge” in the inaugural year for 2014, I thought it was absurd.  Who would do that?  I was coming off of a fractured pelvis injury, so I “only” did the 10K and half marathon for the 2014 Disney Marathon Weekend.  When it came time to sign up for the Disney Marathon Weekend this year, I thought, “What the heck.  Who knows if I’ll be injured or healthy or whatever, but at least I’ll be signed up for all of the races and I’ll decide which ones […]
