I’m Not Good at Fasting

13.04.2015
|

Instead of obsessing, I wanted to give something up that would be a reminder of Christ’s love instead of what seemed like total punishment and depression.
Now that the Lenten season has come and gone and we’ve already celebrated Easter, I can tell you a little bit about my experience this year with fasting.

I am completely addicted to chocolate. Not a day goes by without some form of it entering my body at some point. Since lent is a time for giving up something that is close to you, I thought I would give up chocolate for […]

Florida Tomato Month

9.04.2015
|

Tomatoes are full of immune boosting vitamin C and A, folic acid, biotin, and fiber to name a few.
Happy Florida Tomato Month! I don’t know about you, but I am definitely celebrating! Tomatoes typically grow all year round here, but during the colder months (trust me, sometimes it drops to the 30’s at night!) tomatoes aren’t as plentiful and the prices skyrocket. For somebody who uses and eats tomatoes on a daily basis, it is quite a buzz kill.

But, the weather has returned to its hot, humid self and tomato prices are back down where […]

My Gorgeous Hikes in Arizona

7.04.2015
|

The aspect of the hiking I loved most was the exhilarating feeling of doing something out of my normal fitness routine with a reward so sweet when you get to the top.

I had the opportunity recently to travel to Phoenix for a long weekend with my fiancée.  I had no idea how gorgeous the area is and how amazing the hikes are!  I met up with my friends Kris and Mindy on Sunday morning and they took me out to the Superstition Mountains to Lost Dutchman State Park and hiked up and even beyond a point called Flat […]

Got “Milk”?

2.04.2015
|

If looking for a milk substitute to replace those nutrients, it’s important to break down the facts, look at the pros and cons and decide what options are best because with all the choices we now have, it can get a little confusing.
Being vegan in the world we live in today isn’t the easiest. For those that don’t know, veganism is different than vegetarianism in the way that vegans don’t consume any animal products, not even animal byproducts such as milk, cheese, butter, and eggs. It seems pretty limiting, especially for somebody who loves to […]

The Liberation of Cleaning Out

30.03.2015
|

I have gone through my closets and bathroom to purge clothes and items I don’t need.  How liberating!

I tend to be one of those people who has a bit of clutter.  My house is clean, except for the piles of “stuff” on counters and my office.  I tend to pile papers and magazines and after a while I don’t even want to walk into my office because of the piles.

I am getting married soon, so I have had to make room in my closets and various areas of my house for my new husband and his […]

How to Eat Healthy on a Budget

19.03.2015
|

There are a million excuses people use to not eat healthy, some more understandable than others, but “it’s too expensive” should not be one of them! There are tons of things you can do to eat healthy without breaking the bank.

Here’s how:

Quality over quantity

In terms of meat, seafood and cheeses/specialty items, the better the quality, the better for your health and budget
Talk to the meat butchers and fishmongers etc.; they recommend quality products and give you exactly what you need
A little goes a long way—not to mention if you […]

3 Fun Ways to Get Moving!

17.03.2015
|

I’m on my own path of exercise and it’s important to do what I enjoy and what works best for me, not what everyone else is doing and enjoying.

I used to do the hour long P90X every morning around 6AM before class, or run intervals on the treadmill for 60 minutes, or go to boxing classes with my mom…all of which are great but also really intense. Some people thrive off of grueling workouts like that, but I am not one of them. It was hard for me to accept that about myself, which is why […]

Life Happens: how to learn to let go

16.03.2015
|

I’ve been through a lot in the past few years. Everyone goes through periods of life when the unexpected happens, and we need to learn how to embrace it or it will get a hold of us.

In October of 2012, I lost my beloved husband to cancer and became a widow at the age of 38 with two boys ages 3 and 5. The fight against the cancer was exhausting to say the least, and Stephen’s death was the hardest thing I have had to overcome.

I made a choice. When I first heard of […]
